Okay so the thing about “holden caulfied thinks you’re a phony” is that it really poorly misrepresented the character in a lot of ways. But at least it still made sense in the context of the story.

“Daisy Buchanan thinks you’re a beautiful fool” really poorly misinterprets what characters means in the specific line that it draws from, and it makes no sense in the context of that line.

It’s just

I wasn’t going to say anything about how much it bothered me but the more and more I think about it the more I feel like it utterly cheats the story. Like if you are wearing that shirt and thinking that it actually represents that story well at all then you either just read the sparknotes of the book or you didn’t think more about anything any of the characters were saying for more than the time it took to process the words on the page.

I’m really unhappy about that shirt.
